Illness
Illness during the Academy Day
If a child becomes ill during the academy day, whenever possible they will be sent home. Please ensure that we have up to date contact details for such circumstances.
The decision to send a child home will be taken by a member of the Senior Leadership Team and based on advice from trained First Aiders.
Children leaving the academy other than at official times must be signed out at the main office.
Should a child be injured at the academy and need hospital attention, they will be taken to hospital by car or an ambulance will be called, whichever is considered.
Emergencies
When your child starts, we ask you to fill in a form with details about who is allowed to collect them from school and who we should contact in case of an accident or illness. It is important that any changes to this information, e.g. telephone numbers or changes in names, are given to a member of staff as soon as possible.
Please make sure that someone on your list available for contact by phone at all times. In the event of an accident, (including minor accidents) we will ask you to sign a form to say that you have been informed about and seen the injury. First aid is always given by a trained member of staff.
Medication
Medicines should only be taken to school or settings when essential; that is where it would be detrimental to a child’s health if the medicine were not administered during the school or setting ‘day’. School will only accept medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor, dentist, nurse prescriber or pharmacist prescriber. Medicines must always be provided in the original container as dispensed by a pharmacist and include the prescriber’s instructions for administration and dosage. A medicine in school form will need to be completed before any medication can be administered.
Asthma Inhalers
If your child has asthma then we will administer a reliever when necessary provided you have completed the form for our Asthma register. Please see a member of staff about this. You may also leave a reliever in school to be used when required. Please note that ONLY the BLUE asthma relievers (e.g. VENTOLIN) will be given in school. The (usually) BROWN preventer medication should be given at home.
